It’s hot here. Too darn hot.
The little league games are amazing, total nail-biters.
The internet isn’t working in my hotel room, so I’m out in a common area using it instead.
I’m also waiting for my room to be cleaned - I was gone for 5 hours, but alas, it is still dirty.
Humph.
Tomorrow? - Possibly going to the Indiana State Fair. Yay!
Also, Indy Black Pride is going on right now. Fun stuff.

I am coming to you live from the Super 8 in Wenona, Illinois (Here I am!).
Population: 1,000.
Life “downtown” at 8:35pm: Two bars open, two churches visible from the main drag. Straddling the line between quaint and spooky.
Police force: Creepy stalkery.
Food options: Slim. Pizza Hut for dinner.
Hotel: Nice. Complete with Direct T.V., internet access, and my snoring papa in the next bed.
Tomorrow? Off to the Little League Regionals in Indianapolis to watch my brother umpire.
Hooray!
The hotel in Indianapolis? - Also has free wireless.
Perfection.
Side note: Far too many places and things in MN/WI/ILL have “mound” or “mounds” in their name. Think about it.

Are you ok? If you know me, you’re in the twin cities and you’re reading this, please let me know that you’re okay.
Phone lines are all tied up in the area and I’m freaking out.
That is right by my house and I drive on it EVERY DAY - I was actually supposed to be on it tonight, around the time that it collapsed but I was running late. My God.
I just started crying on the phone with a dear friend. This is so scary.

I spent an hour or so last night looking through wordpress themes on multiple websites in an effort to spruce up my blog. No luck. I mean, COME ON! My “about” photo is 3 years old and I’m totally over this background. Humph. Perhaps I’m too picky? Perhaps.
Any-hoo, on to the foodstuffs.
Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of dining at Bonnie’s Cafe, and was waited on by none other than Bonnie herself! The woman is all sweetness and light with an extra cup of smiles and sunshine tossed in for good measure. The food is also super tasty! I ordered the 2X2X2, which comes with french toast (2 slices), 2 eggs, 2 strips of bacon or sausage links, and hashbrowns. I gave the meat away to my dining companion, drooled to the max over the best french toast I’ve had in quite a while (though, to be honest, I am not a connoisseur), and my tummy thanked me for such a tasty, tasty breakfast.
I loved Bonnie’s - it has the look and feel of a small-town diner, nearly small-town prices, on the edge of St. Paul and Minneapolis.
Also, Bonnie’s opens at FOUR A.M. - they had a killer 4-6am breakfast special, too. I have no idea why I’d ever be up for going out to breakfast at that hour, but if I am, you bet your hot ass I’ll be taking myself to Bonnie’s.
Less fortunately, I ate dinner at Pi and was extremely sick afterwords. On Thursdays they have “all you can eat tacos,” so naturally I ordered tofu tacos. I only ate one plate of them (two gigundo tacos), and for what it’s worth I do remember remarking that the rice “tasted funny.” It was chewy and had a strange consistency, so I didn’t eat much of it. Now, I don’t want to diss Pi, because in theory and most of the time in practice, I really dig the joint, but I am afraid we have an abusive relationship - Pi hit me right where it hurts - in the gut! Oof!

Harry Potter and the Order of The Phoenix
Loved it.
Hermoine was bad ass in this one.
I would like Ron to be less of a weenie.
I don’t like Voldemort (or rather the actor playing him’s interpretation) - it’s such a caricature.
1408
Liked it so much I went right out and bought the short story.
The screenplay was well written and creative.
I was quite let down by the short story.
Damn you, Stephen King — learn how to END a story.
For once, the movie really is better than the book.
Spiderman (all of ‘em)
meh schmeh - enjoyed the special effects in 3 better than in 2, definitely.
Kirsten Dunst is tolerable in this movie, though not an any other that I’ve seen her in.
Attention casting directors for major motion pictures: Hire Topher Grace. Thanks.
I’ve seen a few other movies recently but can’t think of ‘em off the top of my head. Therefore they must not be any good. Yeah, that’s the ticket.
P.S. Jon Lovitz - thanks for punching Andy Dick in the face. I mean it. You’re the best!
P.P.S. Tammy Faye - thanks for being such a kindhearted woman. You’re fabulous and you will be terribly missed, by so many.

Pros:
*tasty food - I couldn’t decide between the Huevos Rancheros and the Veggie Sandwich. Well, at first. Eventually I chose the veggie sandwich - mmm… avacado…
*cute (though a bit too kitschy at times) atmosphere
Cons:
*menu is spendy - Chicago spendy, though… not NYC spendy
*they don’t accept credit cards
I want to support independent food places - especially non-corporate coffee. But, dang! What’s a girl to do when she doesn’t get paid until Friday and can’t afford the fees at their on-site ATM?
I’d go there again, as long as I have enough cash handy. I won’t go there as often as I’d go to, say, Brownie’s, though due to the spendiness (and distance).

I am sad that my girlfriend* Sabrina Matthews was voted off of Last Comic Standing last week.
She’s my favorite.
I’ve had a crush on her for just about forever. I love me a funny lady, I tell you what.
You can listen to her here - an awesome podcast. Also, you can find lots of videos of her through her website, which I linked to above.
I e-mailed her back in February of 2004, because I’m a huge dork. She did write back, quoted me (woo a personal response) and said that she had added me to her mailing list, which I appreciate. Also, we’re “friends” on myspace.
I will continue to watch Last Comic Standing because there were a couple of other comedians that tickled my funny bone, but I will do so with a heavy heart as there will no longer be any more Sabrina Matthews on the show. Sad day.
*note: Sabrina Matthews is not my girlfriend. Damn.

Today I found myself at this coffeeshop* with some time to kill.
I decided to read a few local papers.
1) Lavender - snore.
2) The Onion - moderately amusing.
3) vita.mn - a good read! Low on the ads, heavy on the content - enjoyed the movie reviews.
*the coffee was awful, but the barista was a sweetheart
I don’t even touch CityPages anymore unless someone points me in the direction of a specific article.
Yay for vita.mn - sorry it took me so long to give you the time of day.
P.S. Northeast is NOT “the new Uptown.” Hardly. Having lived in both NE and Uptown, I much prefer NE - less traffic, less idiots (so far), much more working class. Don’t get me started. Don’t even get me started.

What is up, kids? No love for a local ‘zine fest?
It happened today and is continuing tomorrow at the Stevens Square Center for the Arts. It’s on 19th St. and 3rd Ave. S, one short block north of Franklin Ave. atop a sweet little corner grocery store.
What are you waiting for?
Get on it!

Driving home today on Industrial Blvd., I noticed something fly out of the window of the car in front of me.
TRASH!
The litterbug was driving a light blue Toyota Prius, license plate VEW 915 .
Way to help the environment, lady.
I can’t stand littering. Jerks.
