Twins Update04.16.07

BASEBALL!

My favorite season of the year has finally begun - Twins baseball season!
It’s the happiest time of year for me - sunshine, peanuts, sass, and men smackin’ each other on the booty.

I went to my first Twins game - hmm - two weeks ago (4/4/07).
It was a Wednesday, I do believe, and I attended with my parents. I attempted to take photos of my mom and I with my cell phone, but alas it was not to be. She looked even goofier than me in each shot and I’ll spare both of us the embarrassment.
Game rocked. Twins won (7-2). I have awesome nicknames* for the players. ‘Nuff said.

I went to my second Twins game last Saturday.
No love for Perkins - I’d have rather seen Neshek.
Yet again… game rocked, Twins won (12 - 5), I rock the casbah.
Also, Alexi Casilla (Who?) did an amazing back flip catch on Saturday to end the game. Priceless.

*example nicknames: curly, designated hottie, dimples, koobs, Steriods (’Roid Rage) Rincon aka Juan, Two, Three, R Dubs, Mighty Mouse, twitchy, fat head, the best looking man in baseball.
Bonus points if you can guess who “dimples” and “Mighty Mouse” are.

Let’s go Twins!06.15.06

I went to the game last night.
I was a bit concerned, seeing as they were coming off of a big win from Tuesday, but the Twinkies did not disappoint.
8-1. Take that!

One of the more amusing points of the night occurred when two fans (young white guys) rushed the field. One of them took off for center field and high-fived Torii Hunter. The other ran to 2nd, high-fived Castillo, touched 3rd, and then slid into home just before being tackled by the Boston Red Sox’s bat boy.
Hilarity! I wish there was a video of it. EDIT: There is video, but only of the tackle, not the whole kerfuffle.
The best part was, the security guards chasing them were so out of shape! One of them actually slid on the turf and just missed grabbing the guy in the outfield.
Aaah 7th inning fun.
Win Twins!
And, if you haven’t already, VOTE JOE!
Do it!

Life Without the Internet05.28.06

I’ve been internet-less since Thursday and it feels like much longer!
My internet won’t be connected (at my new place) until this coming Thursday, but I’ve snuck in a moment at my parents’ place to check e-mail and catch up on online happenings.
In the summer of 2000, I did summer theatre for three months without internet (or my own phone) and survived.
Funny how times have changed.

Last night I saw X3 and loved it, though not as much as 1 or 2.
I’m told there is something Xtra after the credits, but I didn’t know that so I didn’t stay.
Drat!

Today I went to the Twins game.
GO TWINS! Hooray for a sweep against Seattle and hooray for the Designated Hottie, Joe Mauer (lookin’ good)!
It totally rocked me (HELLO homeruns from Lew Ford and Justin Morneau).
I’m such a crushedout superfan.

Dear Heatwave,
GO AWAY!
I just moved into my schmancy new place and I can’t enjoy it because my cat is overheated and I’m not getting any sleep!
No love for you.

Dear Thunderstorms (and rain),
Please come quick - hurry!
I promise to love you forever and ever even if it means a few days without sun.
Kisses!

New Stadium05.19.06

Well, well, well.
There has been tentative approval for a new Twins stadium.
Sweet.
Now we get to FREEZE OUR ASSES OFF at Twins games.

I wanted (at the very least) a retractable roof.

Can’t the ball players give up a portion of their salary or donate or something?
Wishful thinking, I know.
Maybe former Twins?
If I had the money, I’d pay for it.
Dang.

Open-air stadiums really don’t work well in this climate.
Can’t wait to hear all of the “Build It” pro-stadium folks whining like little babies the first time it snows during a game.
Suckers!

Pink bats and thrown hats05.15.06

I went to the game yesterday, and the Twins lost.
I thought I had more to say about it, but I really don’t.
They should have won.
They were up 7 - 3 in the first inning and ended up losing 7 - 9.
Punks.

My favorite parts of the game?
1) The two guys in front of us (good friends) - one a Sox fan, and the other a Twins fan - battling it out throughout the game.
2) The marriage proposal that happened in the row behind me. Awww.
3) One of the White Sox threw a fit (and his helmet) and didn’t get kicked out of the game. Thanks, blue.
4) Gardie (Gardy?) threw a fit in the 9th inning. I love when he gets all riled up. Unfortunately, he should have done it much earlier, as the ump was making awful calls the whole game.

I purchased lower reserved seats for my family for Mother’s Day - and, man - it is fancier down there!
Nicer bathrooms (hand towel dispensers above each sink, no broken stall doors), larger food selection, friendlier staff.

Don’t get me wrong - 9 times out of 10 I’ll sit in the cheap seats - but it was nice to live like a fat cat for a change.

Go Twins!04.15.06

The Twins beat the Yankees last night!
YES!
In the middle of the game, the pitcher (Baker) walked off the field for about two minutes.
There was much speculation from our party about why he left.
“He had to take a whiz!”
“He had to poop!”
“Maybe he got so excited from pitching in the big leagues that he had to throw up!”

What really happened?
HE BROKE HIS JOCK.
Man, you can’t make this stuff up!
It’s comedic gold!

My mom read about it in this morning’s paper, after which she and I made many inappropriate comments.
I love us.

In other news, I made an AMAZING (legendary, long, gorgeous, with relevant pictures and links) blog post yesterday only to have FireFox crash before I published (or saved) it.
Damn you WordPress for not having an automatic save feature!
So, that’s sad because I had an amazing “night on the town” on Thursday and was eager to blog all about it.
Foiled again!

Three big deaths in the past two days.03.07.06

Dana Reeve.
Kirby Puckett.
Rio the dolphin.

I grew up watching Rio at the zoo, I’ve seen video of her giving birth, I’ve never heard of her being abusive or drunkencrazy.

Order of importance/impact on my life:
1)Kirby
2)Rio
3)Dana (at least she and Chris can be together again, happy wherever they may be)

Kirby lost me when the allegations came out (The Other Kirby).
No disrespect intended - I simply have no tolerance for abuse and had a hard time accepting that the Kirby I thought I knew (and loved) could do such a thing.

I’ve been a huge Twins fan since birth and will be for life, but damnit - I’m going to miss Rio, too!

Lewwwwwwwwwwww!01.29.06

Oh my!
I received a surprise gift from my dad today - a Lew Ford autograph.
Sweet!
My dad is involved with little league (has been for twenty years now), they had a meeting yesterday, and Lew was there!
RIGHT ON.

Oh Jon Lewis Ford, I adore you - and I can’t wait for the season to start!

After all that we’ve been through10.07.05

Why, Al, why?
You know Minnesota loves you!
Why you gotta go and run away like that?
Is it the (lack of) money? The cold weather?
Please baby, come back to Minnesota - Minnesota aint tryin’ to hurt you!

Damnit.
Good-bye, Al.
Enjoy the dry heat.

Sports, Sports, and EVEN MORE SPORTS!09.19.05

This weekend I not only went to a Twins game, but I also went to a Gopher Football Game (46 - 7 aww yeah).
All this and I took two tests from hell (any standardized test has got to be the work of the devil, I say).
Whew!

In sports news, The White Sox beat the Twins for the series (2-1, 0-5, 2-1), but the Twins still scored more runs overall and had better pitching (surprisingly).
Unfortunately, we (the Twins) have not been hitting well lately.
HIT THE BALL, twinkies! That’s what they pay you the big bucks (haha, not in MN) for!

Rumors are that Torii Hunter will be leaving the Twins (he already sold his house here - dang).
He’ll be out for the rest of the season (ankle issues) and then is assuming (rightfully so) that the Twins won’t pay him as much as he’s asking so he’ll be moving right along.
Damn you, cheap bastards!
I bet we’ll lose Jacque, too.
Son of a!

That’s all the (local) sports news that’s fit to print.
Now that I’ve successfully procrastinated more than my quota for the day…
it’s homework time and then off to school with me!
