It’s March!03.22.08

*I began writing this post on March 1st or 2nd. Whoa. I really need to pick up the pace here!

I’m so glad it’s March.
In honor of this fabulous month and the springtime that is coming closer each day, I am going to write all about me.
ME!

What’s new in my world… well…

  • I cut my hair! I’m so happy - I was growing it out for-ev-er (or so it felt) and kept it long for nearly one year before giving it the old chop chop. Visual aid: (before) - I don’t have an “after” shot yet. Honestly - I couldn’t be happier.
  • Loving Sarah Waters’ book, Affinity. I bought it at Amazon, from the owner herself! I’m not sure if she’s ever been working the register when I’ve been in before. Not that I recall at least. What a great bookstore. What an engrossing book. I’m on page 100something. Quite an interesting read so far!
  • I got back from Las Vegas bright and early this morning. I had a great trip - much different than my last one. This was my second time going to Vegas. I spent too much money gambling. I think that happened because we didn’t go to any shows this time. I went with three other folks (my mom, her friend/co-worker, and my friend/co-worker). Highlight of the trip - getting my photo taken on the starship enterprise (as captain!). I exclaimed, as the four of us (two strangers and my friend) walked toward the simulated deck, “This is the geekiest I’ve ever felt in my life, and I love it!” To which, the other woman with us replied, “You’re among friends.” I love trekkies. Also, Star Trek: The Experience is totally worth the 32 bucks that it costs to go (with a $10 off coupon). There are two rides (each 20 minutes long), a museum, a gift shop, and a restaurant. I’d highly recommend it. I’ve only seen the original star trek and star trek the next generation and I had tons of fun.
  • I’m unbelievably introspective today. It’s freaking me out a little bit, but I’m working my way through it. Namastie, bitches!

    Festing With The Ladies10.17.07

    Is that like feasting?
    Perhaps. Perhaps.

As of tomorrow morning I will set sail (not really) for Chicago with these nerds.

We will stay at their friend’s house and head to LadyFest Chicago.
I’ve never been! (to LadyFest, that is)

    See you on Sunday, Minneapolis!

    You’re All Welcome08.14.07

I changed the “theme” of this blog for the first time in over TWO YEARS!
    Hooray for me.
There are a couple of glitches that I”m trying to work out/get help with -
    1) the “site admin” tab. I don’t want it.
    2) I want a flickr badge in my sidebar, but with the newest version of wordpress, I don’t know a good way to manipulate the sidebar in code.
I posted a thread about it on the wordpress forum, so hopefully someone out there can help me out.

I’ve also finished uploading photos to flickr. I have Indianapolis photos and photos from the Arboretum in Chaska. Feel free to browse through them at your leisure.

I was disappointed by Indianapolis as a whole. It was a lot more southern than I expected and very distinctly (deliberately?) divided by class. I did enjoy it when the waitress at Bob Evans called me “Ma’am” and “Miss Lady,” though. That was nice.

    Indy08.09.07

It’s hot here. Too darn hot.
The little league games are amazing, total nail-biters.

The internet isn’t working in my hotel room, so I’m out in a common area using it instead.
I’m also waiting for my room to be cleaned - I was gone for 5 hours, but alas, it is still dirty.
    Humph.

Tomorrow? - Possibly going to the Indiana State Fair. Yay!

Also, Indy Black Pride is going on right now. Fun stuff.

    Get out of town!08.07.07

I am coming to you live from the Super 8 in Wenona, Illinois (Here I am!).
    Population: 1,000.
Life “downtown” at 8:35pm: Two bars open, two churches visible from the main drag. Straddling the line between quaint and spooky.
    Police force: Creepy stalkery.
Food options: Slim. Pizza Hut for dinner.
Hotel: Nice. Complete with Direct T.V., internet access, and my snoring papa in the next bed.

Tomorrow? Off to the Little League Regionals in Indianapolis to watch my brother umpire.
    Hooray!

The hotel in Indianapolis? - Also has free wireless.
    Perfection.

Side note: Far too many places and things in MN/WI/ILL have “mound” or “mounds” in their name. Think about it.

    Returning to Human06.25.07

I’m back from a 5-day vacation in Las Vegas, Nevada. - My first time.
I absolutely loved every minute of it!
I went with my mom, who rocks it with the best of ‘em. We saw four shows, one of them being “Legends” at the Imperial Palace. I fell in love with the guy who played Jerry Lee Lewis - he’s my new boyfriend. I saw him after the show and told him, “You’re amazing! You’re so talented.” He was shy and adorable. He and the Elvis impersonator were my favorites. Great voices, lots of stage presence.
I also won about $300 on penny slots.
I would strongly suggest that when folks visit Vegas, they eat at Ba-Ba-Reeba, in the fashion show mall. Delicious tapas and many varieties of sangria - yum! I had a great time, save a few embarrassing drunk/tipsy confessions made to my mom. You won’t believe the things I said. Trollop!
    Phew.
I barely made it out of there alive, or with any spare cash.

If you’re interested, I posted photos on my flickr page - my mom took some really good ones - I’ll bug her to upload ‘em ASAP and then I’ll add my favorite one to this post.

    I’ve finally recovered.

I arrived home around 2am late Friday/early Saturday.
I went to Loring Park for pride festivities around 4:00pm on Saturday, hung out with my mom for a bit, went to Dyke March at around 9:00, had a free armband to Pi, hung out at Damian’s (not on the stoop) as was at home/in bed by 3:00am. Phew!

Sunday I picked up my ladyfriend at the airport and was basically a vegetable for the majority of the day.
I finally got to bed at a normal time last night, slept like a happy baby, and bummed around today.
I saw 1408 and liked it. I was scared/spooked and want to read some Stephen King. The best possible outcome, I do believe.

I accidentally deleted some blog comments while getting rid of a large amount of spam. Sorry folks!

Happy end of June - stay cool!

Bad Blogger, no links for you!04.12.06

    I’ve been bad.
Sittin’ back, snarking at things I read on other blogs (that shall remain nameless) all the live long day.

    Honestly?
I’m graduating in a month, I’m a whirlwind of craziness (mushy mush mush and goo), and my 9th birthday present (the ever wonderful Cinderella) died yesterday (babyface cat, 17 years young).
Oh - and - I’m moving in June.
    Insanity!

Whine whine whine complain complain - didn’t I say I wanted this to be an impersonal blog from the get go?
    I do believe I did.
    Mucked that one up!

    -
    -
    -

In news of the random, I found a ladybug in my backpack yesterday.
My backpack that hadn’t been outside.
My backpack that had been sitting on the floor of my classroom all day.
It was still alive and my plan was to free it outside.
I walk away for a few minutes and boom - it’s gone! Knowing my luck, I stepped on it.

Anyway, ladybug-related, I looked up some ladybug ‘lore on the internets yesterday.
Results were inconclusive - I found the following:
    Superstitions…
*Finding a ladybug is good luck (the redder the better) < -- "the redder the better"? I feel dirty.
*Killing a ladybug will cause bad luck and sickness.
*To know the direction from which your future love will come catch a ladybug and chant the following:
    “Ladybug, ladybug, fly away home
Your house is on fire and your children are gone.”
    *Also has been said as
“Ladybug, ladybug, to your house you must turn.
Your house is on fire and your children may burn.”
    OR
“Fly away east, Fly away west,
Show me where lives the one I love best.”
Let the Ladybug go and watch what direction it flies in to find your answer.
*A ladybug landing on you is very lucky.
*A ladybug on your clothing means you will soon get a new piece of clothing. < -- boring!
*The number of spots on a ladybug indicated the number of happy months lay ahead.
*To cure a toothache rub the yellow liquid discharged when a ladybug becomes alarmed on the tooth. < -- unsanitary to the maximus!
*If a ladybug lands on your hand and then flies away, it said to be good weather on the following Sunday.
*If a ladybug lands on the hand of a recently married woman the number of dots on its back is the number of children she will have.

    AND ALSO:

The lady bug is a porta fortuna or charm (good luck) and, last but not least, a symbol of the soul. In this latter capacity the lady bug is called anima della Madona (soul of Our Lady) or anima del paradiso. Should anybody have the misfortune to kill the bug, he or she would die the very next day.

Good to know. I really am an overflowing fountain of useless knowledge.
    You’re welcome.

Oooh - lest I forget - I uploaded a few photos from my trip to Louisville - here.

    Sweet!04.07.06

I’m at the bar on the second floor of my hotel in Louisville, stealing wireless internet.
    Life is good!
Yay for conferences having unsecured wireless, only on the conference floor.

So, I can’t get internet in my room (sadly) but at least I can get it here at the bar!

If only the waitress would stop ignoring me and let me order a glass of wine, I’d be in heaven!

Just had a huge tornado and it’s thunderstorming outside and my hotel room happens to be on the top (18th) floor, because I’m just that fancy.

Update: (5 min later) I have wine - SUCCESS!

    Soundtrack to my day04.01.06

If there was a soundtrack to my day, right now it’d be stuck on repeat. For some reason I’ve got “What a feeling’” stuck in my head.
    Oh dear.
    Flashdance!

It’s been a week of blushing, sighing, dreaming, and being way too distracted for my own good.
I’d say it’s been the best spring break on record.
I’m so not ready for next week to begin.

More about my travels later - for now there are a few pictures up here.

    Did somebody say impulsive?03.21.06

My impulsivity has reached a new low (high?).

This time next week, I will be in the northeast (Boston/Providence, to be more specific).
    Damn that’s hot.

Spring Break - here I come! Hooray for cheap tickets!

Don’t worry, I’ll take photos. Oh yes, there will be photos.
