This one hits far too close to home11.09.06

Sad, but true. Homophobia is rampant in the public school system.
The caption reads:
“My daughter is still in the closet so she can teach at Smith Elementary.”

“Eggplant is the new black.”09.01.06

I overheard a woman at Herbegers (dept. store) saying so the other day.
She heard it on E!, so it must be true.

I saw Katy Gerdes (Project Runway + my high school) AGAIN at the State Fair tonight.
She’s obviously stalking me.
Sowaytotally.

I also saw an ex (boo hiss) at the fair.
An ex that I had been feeling bad about (the way things ended, I was immature yadda yadda).
I feel bad no longer - she was a total punk when she saw me! She even made the patented ass-face. It was obvious that she was uncomfortable and purposefully shunning me (we have a mutual friend apparently, hence the awkward interaction).
I will feel bad no longer - no longer, I say!
(take that)

Sarcasm alert!07.26.06

Lance Bass is gay?
Oh, honey - I had no idea! Hold on a mo ment…
I thought he was just a pioneer in the “metrosexual” movement.
Oh, my girlish dreams have been shattered - shattered!

Hilarity!07.07.06

Insanity!

(ganked from Alison Bechdel’s flickr photo stream)

Last night I saw Alison Bechdel (of Dykes to Watch Out For fame) read at the Amazon Bookstore, just blocks from my Uncle’s place where I have been housesitting for the past week.

She is very witty, verbose, amusing… a handful of other adjectives that I am too sleepy to think of right now.
It was really hot (no air flow) downstairs and packed, so I only stayed for 1/2 the reading - though I did go upstairs and buy her new book, Fun Home, and donate to her travel fund.

After that, my friend K and I went to Pepito’s for beer and some (not so) quality live (cover) music.
Fun!

And then I had a dream last night that I told the woman that I dated back in 2000/2001 that I was sorry for being such an immature moron, that she deserved better, and she seemed glad that I told her and gave me a hug.
See, that’s what I should have done.

I’ve just outgayed myself!06.25.06

Wow.
I didn’t think it could happen - but I totally outgayed myself.

I marched in the (Minneapolis GLBT) Pride Parade today (proof)!

WA-HOO!

What a fun day of cuteness and couples and dogs (damn so many dogs).
I have done no cool extracurriculars - sadly - as I had a wedding to attend yesterday and just welcomed a new boy cat into my home.
I’m spent (and sunburnt).
Happy Pride!

Scream if you love Scream Club!06.16.06

I saw Scream Club last night for the second time, at the Hexagon Bar (I’d never been!).
What fun!
Unfortunately, their set wasn’t as long as last time but they still put on a heckuva show.
Started pretty late and I was beat from the heat so I left after their set and headed to bed.

It’s kind of amusing that the “old, dear friend” that I ran into at their last local show is now my roommate.
Awesome.

If they come to your town, I’d highly suggest checking them out.
If not for the queer/feminist lyrics, then for the synchronized dance moves and blingin’ outfits.
mmmhmmm that’s right.

Library Love06.13.06

I volunteered tonight at my favorite local gay library for the first time in two years. It’ll be a monthly gig from now on.
I’m so in love! Every time I’m there I see more books that I have to read and each time I learn something new (and often exciting) about queer culture.
My mission is to get more women and gender variant folks to come in to the joint.
It warmed my heart tonight when an older chubby gentleman rented some FTM porn.
It’s the little things.

Happy Gay Pride Month!06.05.06

Senate opens talks on a federal ban against gay marriage.
“Ages of experience have taught us that the commitment of a husband and wife to love and to serve one another promotes the welfare of children and the stability of society,” Bush said in his weekly radio address. “Government, by recognizing and protecting marriage, serves the interests of all.”

Ages of experience?
Like the current rate of divorce?
Like the amount of domestic violence that we have in this country?
Yes, indeed. Let’s get right on “protecting” that.

In Short05.21.06

Yesterday I:

*Ventured out to the new Minneapolis library.
It’s gorgeous, but could use a map/directory (other than the paper one they handed out).
It was fun to see a library so HUGE, packed with eager/excited folks.
*Went to the Q Library 20th anniversary party. This party was in connection with the GLBT ALMS Conference. Quite fun.
*Checked out the new Chatterbox (in St. Paul). Looks nice on the inside - far more suburban than the Minneapolis Chatterbox, attracting a largely family-focused crowd. The wait staff were a bit rude and frazzled, and to be honest I prefer the surly staff at the Mpls. Chatterbox to the snippy teenybopping staff at the new place. Aaah well. At least the joint looked nice (and almost too clean, which sounds strange for a restaurant, but damn that place was sparkling). Too bad my butt couldn’t stay put (or comfortable) in their high-top seats.

FtF: Female to Femme05.08.06

There’s a new film coming out, premiering in San Francisco, that I wish was coming here to the Flaming Film Festival.
Shucks.
It’s called “FtF: Female to Femme” and touches on queer/dyke + femme identities.
It actually talks about “transitioning” to femme.
I guess I’ve never heard it put that way.

I do feel like I came out twice - once as queer, the second time as femme (and, yes, both were very different), but the term *transitioning* - I’m not sure how it sits with me.
I’m not against it - it’s just new and different. It appears as though they’re trying to “spin” that word, so I may just be taking things too seriously here. Reading the little synopsis on the main page (that I linked to above) helps a bit.
hmm.

Watch the preview.
Let me know what you think.

(I think it’s a bit slow, but has potential.)
