Sally Kern, you make me sick03.10.08

Honestly. Sally Kern frightens me. She makes me concerned for the state of the U.S. and its people.
I wonder what she has to say about other minority groups.
Disgusting. Here’s a link - hear for yourself.
Don’t worry - she’s not anti-gay and she’s not gay bashing.
Really?

If only he actually understood what he was saying01.23.07

re: President G.W. Bush’s State of the Union address:

he said:
“without animosity, without amnesty”

I am hoping he meant so say, without animosity, with amnesty.”

Otherwise - I guess he’s letting us know that he really doesn’t care either way.

Def:
animosity
Pronunciation: “a-n&-’mä-s&-tE
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English animosite, from Middle French or Late Latin; Middle French animosité, from Late Latin animositat-, animositas, from Latin animosus spirited, from animus
: ill will or resentment tending toward active hostility : an antagonistic attitude

Def:
amnesty
Pronunciation: ‘am-n&-stE
Function: noun
Etymology: Greek amnEstia forgetfulness, from amnEstos forgotten, from a- + mnasthai to remember — more at MIND
: the act of an authority (as a government) by which pardon is granted to a large group of individuals

In other news, both Nancy Pelosi and Hilary Clinton have Republican Hair.

A Critical Mass of Idiots11.01.06

Transportation:
I had the unfortunate circumstance of driving (riding) down Nicollet Avenue on Friday just as Critical Mass was biking by on Franklin.
Newsflash bike enthusiasts - there’s a much better way to get your point across!
If you expect people in cars to watch out for you and obey the traffic laws (which they should), you have to obey them as well! You don’t get “special” rules. Stop at red lights. Jerks.

Misinformation:
To the woman at lunch today who said she’ll “Never vote for any of them democrats in this election” because of what John Kerry said the other day?
“I can’t overstress the importance of a great education. Do you know where you end up if you don’t study, if you aren’t smart, if you’re intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq.”
Grow up. He was supposed to say the word “us,” apparently - referring to Bush getting “us” stuck in Iraq. Kerry is one Democrat, not the representative for all democrats - and he’s not running in this (local) election. I abhor that ignorant mindset and all or nothing mentality. Genius, I tell you what.

Animation:
Regarding Fur - I saw it at The Walker last Friday and was not impressed, especially with Robert Downey Jr. He could have done so much more with that character. But he didn’t, and this movie is the most fictional account of fauxness that ever existed in fake land.

I’m Italian, I’m Italian. Okay okay.02.01.06

I saw Camille Paglia at Barnes and Noble in Edina last night.
You know, she’s crazy!
Lucky for me I agree with about 75% of what she talked about.

Anyway, she brought up being Italian more times than I can count and said, “okay…” in place of “um.”
She’s one of the fastest talkers I’ve ever heard.
Crazy militant feminists! I love how political and ass-kicking she has been, though I could have done without all of her gloating about it.

Supposedly this event was a “close reading” of her new book.
She read nothing form the book, which makes sense - it’s a collection of poetry. Instead, she ranted and raved for about an hour and 15 minutes, including during the Q&A.
Her fan base was obsessive, dorky, and starstruck.
I was among the youngest folks there, and it was hilarious.

Why couldn’t Camille be my college advisor?
I wish she had been.
She’s a stitch.

My bad, America. My bad.12.14.05

Bush: Iraq Invasion My Responsibility

Q: President Bush, when and how will victory be achieved in Iraq?
A: “Victory will be achieved by meeting certain objectives: when the terrorists and Saddamists can no longer threaten Iraq’s democracy, when the Iraqi security forces can protect their own people and when Iraq is not a safe haven for terrorists to plot attacks against our country. These objectives, not timetables set by politicians in Washington, will drive our force levels in Iraq (link).”

At least he didn’t say “Saddamites!”

Boo Texas and Kansas - yay Minnesota!11.08.05

Texans approved a ban on gay marriage.
To all of my homos in Texas, I’m sorry y’all - it’s time to head north (or stay and fight, but please, don’t be complacent)!
The Kansas board of education approved teaching “intelligent design” in science classrooms (link). Lovely. Because no one knows that “intelligent design” is a fancy way of saying “creationism,” right?

R.T. Rybak is still the Mayor of Minneapolis.
Chris Coleman beat out Randy Kelly (the incumbent) for Mayor of St. Paul.
read: Coleman and Rybak Coast to Victory
Thank goodness.
It cracks me up that two democrats were running against each other.
Then again, one was a traitor (publically supported Bushie and, one would assume, voted for him in the last Presidential election) and the other was not.
Don’t mess with Minnesotans’ party loyalty, Randy. Conisder it a lesson learned.

In grass roots political news, I walked past this nerdy green party guy (Aaron Neumann) on the corner of University and Pleasant (aka 15th Ave. SE) in Dinkytown this afternoon.
He didn’t win, but it was cool to see him (and friends) on the street corner crankin’ hip hop beats, spreading the word with a microphone/megaphone, and rocking the hell out of the vote.
Right on, Neumann!

New at Taco Bell!11.02.05

Judge SCALITO - court justice… SUPREME.
Tastes great with FIRE sauce (like, you know, burning for eternity - sinners).
Say what?
Seriously, if your nickname sounds like the hot new dish at Toxic Hell, perhaps you should not be in charge of making major decisions about my life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.
I’m just sayin’.

In related news, my discussion group leader said, “H. E. Double Hockey Sticks” tonight, instead of simply saying “hell.”
Remind me again - am I in graduate school or elementary school?
It’s such a fine line.

What’s with today, today?10.03.05

That’s it!

I’m going on a bike ride.

In other news, Bush nominates monkey-in-dress for Supreme Court.
America feigns shock.
