Two Complaints
1) I’m really sick of the Catholic church.
Perhaps it’s my upbringing (I grew up in a devout Roman Catholic family).
Perhaps it’s my “alternative lifestyle.”
Perhaps the Catholic church needs a reality check.
Quit shooting yourselves in the foot, Catholic big wigs!
Archdiocese discourages church talks by lesbian and her father.
Discourages? They did more than discourage. They outright refused to allow a Catholic lesbian and her father to speak.
You know who did allow them to? - Spirit of the Lakes United Church of Christ. Thank you, Spirit of the Lakes!
Good to know that you can be a lesbian in the catholic church, but only if you’re celibate.
Guess what? The priests are supposed to be celibate, too, yet they’ve been molesting children for who knows how long.
Way to go, Catholic hierarchy. Keep on keeping on with the hypocracy and ignorance.
Jerks.
2) There is/are no such thing as “transgenders.”
There are transgender people, yes.
There are also homosexuals and gays.
“The gay,” however, does not exist - though I could have sworn that I came down with a nasty case of it once.
But I digress…
And I must confess that I read/browse the strib online most mornings.

I love ya, but the child molestation issue has nothing to do with the church’s intolerance of homosexuality. The hierarchy of the catholic church is woefully out of step with the beliefs of its members and a good part of its clergy. But, child molestation has nothing to do with celibacy and everything to do with being a sick individual.

I, of all people, would not compare homosexuality to pedophilia.
I was speaking of the fact that though they shun the terrible/horrible/ungoldly “active” gays/lesbians outright as often and loudly as possibly, the Catholic church turns a blind eye to their own mistakes.
I am not 100% convinced that molestation isn’t connected to oppression/frustration, which may be (in part) further aggravated by celibacy and the demands of the hierarchy. Why would/are so many priests be doing it if it wasn’t at all connected to being in the priest hood?

I am 100% convinced that no matter how long it has been since I have been sexually active (if ever) I would never have any inclination to molest a child. I’m just saying that the chuch’s intolerance and their cover-ups are 2 very distinctly different issues. I think that it is irresponsible to bring up one when dealing with the other.
Besides, where did I say that you compared the two?
BTW, what is the percentage of priests who have been accused/convicted of molestation vs the percentage of the population as a whole? Something tells me it’s not that different and, if not, then is not indemic to the preisthood at all. I have a feeling that the main outrage is at the cover-ups of the church and the fact that preists are held to a higher standard than the rest of society.
On a sidenote, did you hear that a family sued Fred Phelps & Co. for mental anguish after he protested at their son’s funeral and won? The aftermath should be interesting!
